Matcha Whisk - Chasen
Looking for the secret to a perfect, velvety matcha? This traditional matcha whisk, known as a chasen, is handcrafted from a single piece of natural bamboo. With a full 100 tines, it stands out from standard whisks on the market, which often only have 80 tines.
The Traditional Tea Ceremony in Your Own Home
A chasen is absolutely essential in the traditional Japanese tea ceremony (chanoyu). Since matcha is a stone-ground and extremely fine green tea powder, it cannot be steeped like regular tea – it must be whisked into the water. Preparing tea in this way not only gives you a better taste but also a small break from everyday life where you can experience a piece of authentic Japanese culture.
Since every single whisk is handmade, there will be small, unique variations in the wood. It is precisely this that gives the product character and makes your whisk completely unique.
Care and Use
- Rinse the whisk thoroughly in lukewarm water after each use.
- Allow it to air dry, preferably on a traditional whisk holder (kusenaoshi) to preserve the shape of the tines.
- Do not put it in the dishwasher.
